Hi,
I am still very busy. I ran a Perl and Python course last 2 weeks and now another Perl course.
So you can enjoy the Perl news without a lot of extra commentary:

Beyond the actual use of Lingua::Identify::CLD, Cosimo Streppone tells us the story how the tests of this module started to fail after upgrading Ubuntu, how he contacted Alberto, the author of the module and how he responded within a few hours. I know there are many cases when CPAN authors, just as other open source developers, are not responsive, so I think it is important to show also the cases when things go way better than they would in a commercial situation.

Apparently chromatic likes XML::Rabbit.

by Caleb Cushing (XENO)
An unusual article in the Perl world discussing design of various modules. For example, if you needed non-blocking http request, could you replace LWP::UserAgent by AnyEvent::HTTP::LWP::UserAgent in a third party module? How should the modules be designed so this will be possible?

Interviews
|
by Moritz Lenz (MORITZ)
An interview of I-Programmer with Moritz Lenz first addresses the relationship between Perl 5 and Perl 6, then discusses Perl 6 mutable grammars, and how Parrot might aid language development.

Discussion
|
by Andy Lester (PETDANCE)
Andy Lester has collected all the Perl-related vim snippets that were flowing around, but now he needs someone to help him, or to take over the project. If you are a vim user, this is your chance to give back (more) to the community!

Web::Query changed from throwing exception to returning false. Interesting in light of the recent discussion about autodie that elevates false returns to exceptions in the built-in functions.

Graphs
|
by Miguel Prz (NICEPERL)
An interesting graph showing the number of posts on Stack Overflow tagged with 'Perl'. It's growing. I wonder how does that compare to other programming languages on Stack Overflow, and how does that compare to the number of posts on Perl Monks.

|
by David Golden (DAGOLDEN)
Looking at this graph I wonder, why are most of my clients still using Perl 5.6 and 5.8? What went wrong?

by Doug Bell (PREACTION)
preaction is using the Git::Repository Perl module to create releases both at Double Cluepon and at Bank of America. The comment section is also interesting. It shows how blog posting can lead to interaction between CPAN authors and users.

I am totally confused by this. There are {{{ }}} thingies that are called 'unquotes', closures, psychology and 75-year old wine and Russian tundra.
